Formulating Your Personalized Skincare Protocol
We’re now entering the formulation phase, where we translate your skin analysis into a custom skincare routine. This process is fully personalized, guided by dermatological logic, and built from the ground up using a structured, data-driven approach.
Categorizing the Active Ingredients
We begin by evaluating all 21 Universkin active ingredients against your skin diagnostic. Each ingredient is assigned to one or more functional categories:
- Antioxidants (e.g., Ferulic Acid, SOD, Ascorbic Acid)
- Barrier restorers (e.g., D-Panthenol, Aloe Vera, Niacinamide)
- Sebum regulators (e.g., Zinc Sulfate, Salicylic Acid)
- Brightening agents (e.g., Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Tranexamic Acid)
- Anti-inflammatories (e.g., Madecassoside, Azelaic Acid, Troxerutin)
- Exfoliants & texture refiners (e.g., Glycolic Acid, Phytic Acid)
- Cell turnover & anti-aging (e.g., Retinal, DMAE, Isoflavones, Retinol)
- Antibacterial/anti-acne agents (e.g., Lactopeptide, Salicylic Acid)
Each ingredient's expected effect is scored across eight skin concern zones (yellow, pink, red, blue, orange, grey, green, brown), with dose-response logic based on 1–3 capsule levels.
We’re mapping each ingredient against your skin concern profile, scoring how strongly it addresses oxidative stress, inflammation, dryness, pigmentation, acne, and more.
Classifying Ingredient Suitability
We now evaluate how appropriate each ingredient is for you specifically. For this, we use a rule-based engine that combines:
- Your measured dysfunction scores in each concern zone
- Traits like skin thickness, phototype, ethnicity, age group, sensitivity, and medical history
- Dermatological contraindications (e.g., avoiding glycolic acid for rosacea, avoiding retinal during pregnancy)
Each ingredient is assigned one of four levels:
- Must have (level 4)
- Strongly recommended (level 3)
- Can be used (level 2)
- Should not be used (level 1 or 0)
These scores are calculated separately for the face, eye contour, and neck and décolleté, as tolerance and concerns vary by region.
We’re applying over 400 dermatological decision rules to evaluate ingredient safety, relevance, and synergy, including phototype-based pigmentation risks and inflammatory triggers.
Optimizing the Formula with Constraint Solvers
With the ingredients scored, we are now entering the optimization phase. We will select a combination of 3 actives for both morning and evening that maximizes therapeutic impact while respecting all formulation constraints.
To achieve this, we are using a multi-objective constraint solver that evaluates hundreds of thousands of candidate combinations. Each candidate is assessed using a scientific function that measures how closely the formula’s action profile matches your skin’s dysfunction vector.
We are enforcing clinical formulation standards to ensure efficacy, stability, and skin compatibility. These include considerations such as:
- Ensuring ingredients prone to photosensitivity or reactivity are reserved for nighttime use
- Managing ingredient combinations to preserve pH balance and avoid potential irritation
- Supporting more active compounds with skin-barrier-strengthening agents when needed
- Modulating the number of intensive pigment-correcting actives to match individual pigmentation severity
Assigning AM/PM Usage Based on Biochemical Activity
Now that a formulation is selected, we are divideing the actives across morning and evening serums. Ingredients with antioxidant or energizing effects—like ferulic acid or SOD—are placed in the morning. Others, such as exfoliants or retinoids, are reserved for the evening to support nighttime repair cycles and minimize sun sensitivity.
If ingredients like retinal or glycolic acid are present, we also flag photoprotection guidance to ensure appropriate SPF is recommended alongside treatment.
Personalized Serum Selection for Eyes and Neck
We are repeating this process for your eye contour and neck & décolleté zones, which require milder actives and different prioritization. For example, puffiness around the eyes may call for Troxerutin, while neck photoaging may prioritize Tranexamic Acid or DMAE.
We use predefined clinical templates—validated by dermatologists—to match eye and neck serums to your traits, using the same scoring and constraint system applied to the face.
Recommending Complementary Products
We are now in the final phase; we complete your routine by selecting supportive skincare products that work in harmony with your personalized serums.
- Cleansers are selected based on your sebum activity, barrier sensitivity, and cleansing tolerance.
- Moisturizers are tailored to your skin’s hydration status, structural integrity, and inflammatory load. We assess whether your skin requires lightweight emulsions for sebum control, richer textures for barrier restoration, or calming actives to reduce redness and discomfort.
- Sun protection is matched to your Fitzpatrick phototype, pigmentation risk, and presence of sensitizing actives. If your treatment includes photo-reactive compounds or if melanin instability is detected, we recommend a mineral sunscreen with high UVA/UVB coverage and dermo-protective properties.
Almost There…
We’re now applying final checks. Your personalized serum plan, usage instructions, and active ingredient rationale will be ready in just a few seconds.
